Beyond Botanical

This is not a conventional botanical drawing manual.

It is a guide to drawing plants in nature, for anyone who feels there is more to plants than what we usually notice.

Beyond Botanical invites you to let plants around you guide the way you draw. By observing, sensing, and being present with them, something in the way you experience plants begins to change.

Inside this book there are all sorts of activities. Some will take you outside, while others can be enjoyed from the comfort of your home. Through guided activities and prompts by freehand botanical tattoo artist and painter Daniel the Gardener, you’ll find yourself drawing from real encounters, and even plants that might only exist in your imagination.

Dedicated sections offer guidance on perspective, shading, and composition, helping bring your illustrations to life without overcomplicating things.

Stems, leaves, and flowers are explored in detail, with space to draw, reflect, and journal. This guide is meant to be carried, kept close, and returned to, becoming a space where your relationship with plants can grow.

Beyond Botanical is an invitation to nature lovers, artists, gardeners, and anyone who wants to experience botanical drawing in a way that grows from presence and connection.
